This is an extension about the high cost of living in Hong Kong.
For reference, a forty-square-foot apartment now* (the size a bathroom with one toilet and one sink in the U.S.) that possibly fits kitchen appliances, dining area, a working area, a bathroom, living area, and sleeping area (in an uncomfortably compact and cramped way, of course) costs about $1300 per month, enough in most of the U.S. to obtain usually much more than fifteen times the square footage.

Further Addition:
I have since moved several times from the original house across the street from the school, 5 times in total. Only the last time I moved out of the neighborhood the school was in.
